Medical Records Coordinator

Salary: $16.50 - $17.50 /hr.

Job Summary:

Perform duties relating to establishing and maintaining all medical records for the day health center with little supervision.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains medical records for each Participant.
  • Filing and requesting medical records from outside sources.
  • Assists with coordinating transportation arrangements for scheduled appointments.
  • Utilizes word processing skills to prepare correspondence and reports from rough drafts and verbal instruction.
  • Maintains and enters all data on participants for program reporting and evaluation.
  • Attends required meetings.
  • Provides clerical support for Center staff.
  • Participate in and support Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Medical records transcription skills, word processing, and data entry.
  • Relates well with people of all ages but has a deep sensitivity and commitment to the elderly.
  • Ability to organize work and follow through on assigned tasks.
  • Possession of valid Driver’s License and access to own vehicle
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical records, medical terminology, medical transcription, word processing, and data entry experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of High School or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of specialized training in administrative skills or the medical records field.
  • One year of experience working with the frail and elderly population or willing to participate in extensive training as needed.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support staff/agencies.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to lift residents, medical equipment, supplies, etc.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle.
